Rapid Re-housing at FCC

The Family Crisis Center provides a range of housing supports to families fleeing domestic violence. The most recent is its rapid re-housing program, which connects families to permanent housing through tailored assistance that includes up to one year of rental assistance and 18 months of care coordination support. In 2021, the program’s first year, FCC housed 35 adults and 60 children through rapid re-housing.

What is rapid re-housing?

FCC’s rapid re-housing program supports individuals and families in the rapid re-housing application process, including assistance with:

  • Collecting required documents for rapid re-housing (income verification, Social Security card, benefits statement, birth certificates, etc.)
  • Creating a housing stabilization plan, including key steps for moving from housing crisis to being independently housed within a year
  • Completing a household budget
  • Completing and submitting the rapid re-housing application

Once applicants are approved, FCC’s rapid re-housing program supports them with:

  • Finding an appropriate housing unit
  • Lease signing and utilities payment plan
  • Furnishing the apartment
  • Ongoing support, post move-in, around safety planning and protective measures, rent payment plan, implementation of housing stabilization plan, tenant rights and responsibilities, connecting to local resources such as bus routes and grocery stores
  • Up to 18 months of care coordination support
  • Rental assistance for up to a year

Who is eligible for rapid re-housing?

  • Families and individual adults who are experiencing homelessness as a result of fleeing domestic violence
  • Baltimore County residents or individuals or families staying in a county shelter or hotel and interested in settling in the Baltimore Metro Area
